ellen2.jpgEach October, we pause to remember all of those gone too soon at the hands of cancer. This is a subject close to home here at ABA. In November of 2015, we lost our CEO, our mother, and our friend, Ellen Basse Dietz. Our mom was something special; a fighter, a business leader, a self-made woman.

Ellen's story is a remarkable one. In 1976, after our dad, Albert Basse, Jr., passed away, Ellen was faced with an existential challenge–to step in and continue the business, close it, or sell. No stranger to hard work, and without hesitation, Ellen rolled up her sleeves and joined the senior management team as ABA's CEO. With four children at home and one in college, and buttressed by the support of the late Alan Grant as President, and VP of Sales Paul Manning, Jr., and without a spec of business experience, Ellen took the reigns at ABA and led the company through the difficult transition and on to prosperity. Her guidance, perseverance, and wisdom saved the company and started ABA on its next 45 years of growth and success. Today we remember our mom and all those who have left us much too soon.
